How to Top Up Your Welile Partner Contribution

A top-up adds money to a portfolio you already hold. It is recorded against that portfolio straight away, but it does not join your contribution the moment you pay — it waits to be applied, which is the part that surprises most partners.

Topping up is the commonest thing partners do after their first contribution, well ahead of opening a second portfolio.

Before you pay

Two things decide what your top-up earns, and both belong to a portfolio rather than to you:

  1. Whether it joins an existing portfolio or opens a new one. A top-up takes on the portfolio it joins — including that portfolio's maturity date, which may be sooner than you expect. A separate contribution gets its own term instead. See opening a portfolio.
  2. Which rate and term apply. Do not assume a top-up inherits the rate on a portfolio you opened earlier.

Settle both with Welile before you send anything. A top-up paid on an assumption is awkward to unpick afterwards.

How to top up

  1. Contact Welile — through support or your usual partner contact — and say which portfolio you are adding to and how much.
  2. Confirm the rate, the term and the maturity date your top-up will take on.
  3. Fund it. Either pay using the route Welile gives you and keep the confirmation, or ask for it to be funded from money you already hold on Welile.
  4. Check it is recorded against your portfolio, as a top-up waiting to be applied.
  5. Check again after your next return date, when it should have been added to your contribution.

Funding a top-up from money you already hold

If you also hold a Welile wallet, a top-up can be funded from what is in it rather than from a fresh payment — from your withdrawable earnings, or from operational float where that applies to you. The amount leaves that balance when the top-up is recorded.

Check the balance covers it first. A top-up that cannot be funded does not go through, and it is not a queue that drains the balance later. See understanding your balances.

When a top-up starts earning

A top-up is held against the portfolio until the next return cycle, and is applied after the return for the current period has been paid out. Several top-ups made in the same period are applied together.

This is deliberate. It keeps the period you are part-way through on the figures it started with, so neither your payout for that period nor your top-up is worked out on a moving amount.

So expect two separate moments: the day you pay, and the day it joins your contribution. Your portfolio shows both.

How to know it worked

Your portfolio's activity shows the top-up, first as waiting to be applied and then as applied. Your contribution rises when it is applied, not before.

If you are relying on Welile to allocate it, allow further time for it to be placed against rent plans — see support modes.

Common problems

It is showing but my contribution has not changed. That is the normal state between paying and the next return cycle. Check the portfolio's activity for the top-up itself rather than the headline contribution.

It does not appear at all. Check your own payment confirmation, check you used the route Welile gave you, then contact support with the amount, the date, the reference and your portfolio code. Do not send it again while the first payment is being traced.

It was rejected. A top-up can be turned down at review. Where it was funded from a balance you hold, the amount goes back to that balance. Ask support for the reason before paying again.

You want to stop one. A top-up that has not yet been applied can be cancelled. Ask support, quoting the portfolio code and the amount. Once it has been applied to your contribution it is part of the portfolio, and it comes out through withdrawing returns or a principal request instead.
