Merchant Agents

A Merchant Agent is a cash-out point. When a Welile user withdraws, a merchant pays them — either from company float held in their account, or from their own Mobile Money line — and earns 0.5% of the amount on every completed payout.

It suits somebody who already keeps working Mobile Money balance: a shopkeeper, a mobile money operator, a trader.

Two things to set up before you can work

Two phone numbers, and they must be different:

  • a float number — the line the company sends payout float to;
  • a personal number — the line your own money goes to, including your commission.

No work is possible until both are recorded. See your float and your numbers.

How the money works

There are two ways a payout is settled, and they pay you differently:

From company float — the amount comes out of the float in your account, and only the 0.5% commission lands in your own balance.

From your own Mobile Money or cash — you are reimbursed the amount you sent, plus the 0.5% commission.

Knowing which one you are doing matters for your own cash management. See how a payout works.

What the role is not

A Merchant Agent does not register tenants, post Rent Requests, collect rent or pay landlords. That is Field Agent work.

The roles are kept apart because the money is different — company payout float and a merchant's own balance, against operational float held for rent. Nobody should be running both out of the same pocket.
