How to Onboard or Refer a Sub-agent

Who this is for: Field Agents who want to build a team.

What you will get from it: somebody working your area under you, connected to your account so their work is visible and credited.

A sub-agent does the same field work you do — tenants, houses, collections — under you. You recruit them, train them, review their submissions, and earn an override on part of what they bring in.

Before you recruit anybody

Be honest with yourself about the second half of the job. Recruiting is the easy part; the value comes from what you do afterwards.

  • Can you train this person on photographs, landlords and arrears?
  • Can you review their submissions within a day of them posting?
  • Will you answer your phone when they hit something they have not seen before?
  • Do you know them well enough to consider consenting to a National ID link, if they have no card?

A sub-agent you recruit and then ignore builds a portfolio that does not pay, and part of that becomes your problem.

How to bring one on

  1. Open the sub-agent or referral area on your dashboard, or the Grow tab.
  2. Share your referral link or code with them — by WhatsApp, or as a QR code they scan.
  3. They register as an agent using your link, so the connection to you is recorded. The steps are the ordinary ones: see how to register.
  4. They complete identity verification. If they have no National ID card of their own, they can be linked under yours — see parent-agent ID linking.
  5. Confirm they appear under you on your Service Centre tab. If they are not there, the link was not recorded and their work will not be credited to you.
Without your link they are not your sub-agent

If they register on their own and you sort it out later, they are an independent agent. Send them the link and watch them use it, rather than telling them the name of the site.

After they join

Your responsibilities, and where each one is documented:

  • Train them. Start with rent collection and taking a tenant photo — those two prevent most early trouble.
  • Review their submissions. Every Rent Request they post comes to you before head office. See your team and service centre.
  • Watch their collections, not their registrations. The sub-agents panel shows what each of them collected today.
  • Be reachable. Field judgement questions belong with you, not with support.

What you earn from their work

When a sub-agent collects a repayment, the 10% commission on it is split 8% to them and 2% to you as a recruiter override. Their 8% is not reduced by your 2% — both come out of the same 10%.

You also earn UGX 2,000 when a house they listed is verified, on top of what they earn for the listing itself.

Both are documented in Field Agent Commissions, and your statement shows what was actually credited to you.

What they see

Their side of the relationship is written up in Sub-agent Help, including sub-agent earnings. Worth reading before you explain it to somebody, so you are both describing the same thing.

Common problems

They registered but do not appear under me. They did not use your link. Contact support with their name and phone number — do not ask them to open a second account.

They cannot withdraw their earnings. Almost always identity, or today's collection requirement. Work through withdraw your money with them.

Their submissions keep getting rejected. Look at what the notes actually say. In most cases it is photographs or unreachable phones, and both are training rather than bad luck — see when a Rent Request is rejected.
